If you're still having trouble with this, you can start by drawing a standard profile, tilting it and adding the neck and shoulders afterwards. Also for close-ups it helps if you at least sketch the whole thing and only then crop.
I get frustrated with the cropping a lot too-especially when I draw manga pages because panels usually crop out something. The problem comes when it's a close-up so you do crop out a lot. Sometimes it works to draw it straight into the frame. But when you see there's a problem, the first solution is usually to draw the whole image and erase what's not in the frame. It does help
