Description

Continuing the series of drawings I did for experimental drawing clasess.

This one is a pretty small piece of red cardboard. The wax crayons were sliced in little pieces on a seperate sheet beforehand, placed on top of this one and ironed. The result is the hot print form the melted pieces of caryon. I didn't find the result really nice but needed the technique for the final presentation. So i added white ink and it turned out to be one of my favourites.

Don't know why i associate the look with a comet...

I like the way you bring out certain parts with simple white lines - they add a nice balance and contrast to the picture, and I think the reds would blend in a bit too much with the maroon background if not for the white lines. Hmm I've been seeing those white lines in your recent pieces, even the one with the kid listening to music. One thing that's good about using white is that it's more neutral in a sense, so it can create contrast at a more 'comfortable' level for the eye, compared to certain combinations that may look harsher after a while. Hmm, the small size is also a refreshing change after seeing mainly big abstract paintings on canvas.

Somehow this piece reminds me of cells growing on scaffolds (biomaterial to support cell growth for tissue restoration).
